How to read this

Public Lightning Network aggregates from node gossip: how many bitcoin sit in announced payment channels, and how many nodes and channels carry them.

  • Capacity is bitcoin locked in PUBLIC channels — private/unannounced channels exist on top, so the true network is larger than any chart can show.
  • Payment volume is invisible by design: Lightning settles privately between peers. Nobody — including this page — can measure it.
  • Fewer channels with stable capacity usually means consolidation into bigger, better-managed channels, not decline.
  • Fee rates are in parts-per-million of the routed amount — 832 ppm ≈ 0.08%.
