Mining

The energy-backed competition that orders transactions and issues new bitcoin.

Mining is the process by which specialized computers (ASICs) compete to find the next block by brute-forcing a hash puzzle. The winner earns the block reward and, more importantly, extends the chain — making Bitcoin’s history progressively harder to rewrite, because redoing it would require redoing all that work.

Mining converts electricity into settlement finality. It is why altering yesterday’s transactions is not a matter of permission but of physics and economics.
