Mempool

The waiting room of unconfirmed transactions competing for block space.

The mempool (memory pool) is each node’s set of valid transactions waiting to be included in a block. When demand exceeds the space in the next block, transactions compete by fee rate — miners naturally pick the best-paying ones first.

Reading the mempool tells you what sending bitcoin costs right now and how congested the network is. A full mempool means an auction; an empty one means economy fees clear quickly.
